KOREAN, JAPANESE AND OTHER ASIAN

An interacting world

The ancient world interacted more intensively than we ever imagined: from China westwards to Rome through Central Asia; from China eastwards to Korea and Japan. More developed sea routes brought fashions from China to Japan and Korea and vice versa during the last millennium. The impact of this exchange can be seen clearly in Korean and Japanese pottery and sculptures. Central Asian areas (including a part of India) along different branches of the terrestrial Silk Road traded constantly with China, and thus similar art forms borrowed from each other and flourished.
